Description

Logic level converters are very useful circuits used to convert digital signals from one voltage level to another. Without a logic level converter, using a 3.3V accessory with a 5V microcontroller (or vice versa) would require special care and attention to ensure no higher voltage signals were going to lower voltage inputs.

This specific logic level converter is easy to use, bi-directional, and can even detect the direction of travel. The breakout uses 4 BSS138 FETs with 10K pullups and works with a variety of protocols including: SPI, I2C, and TTL Serial. The board can handle voltages as low as 1.8V on the low side, and up to 10V on the high side. The 10K’s do make the interface a little more sluggish than using a TXB0108 or 74LVC245 so we suggest checking those out if you need high-speed transfer.
