Description
The Feather LoRa (Long Range) is a standard Adafruit Feather microcontroller with a powerful RFM95W LoRa 868/915 MHz packet radio transceiver built in. Since it is a Feather microcontroller, this also means it has built in LiPo connector, battery charging, and a basic battery monitoring circuit.
Portable power coupled with a long range packet radio makes the Adafruit Feather 32u4 RFM95 LoRa board ideal for use in wireless data projects. The low frequency is ideal for long range, lower speed, data transmission. You won’t exactly be streaming video, but for collecting data from sensors, these are an excellent choice. The range is far greater than Bluetooth or WiFi. With a simple wire antenna 2km line of sight is not unreasonable. 20km+ is possible with directional antennas and tweaking of settings.
Unlike Bluetooth or WiFi there is no pairing, scanning, or anything to worry about with connections. Just send data whenever you like and all other modules within range tuned to the same frequency (and with the same encryption key) will receive – simple as that! The LoRa transceiver handles all packetization, error correction and can even auto-retransmit.
The microcontroller on board is an ATMega32u4 clocked at 8HMz with 3.3V logic. These are Arduino compatible and have built in USB support – no need for any special FTDI cables. Just plug this Feather in using a USB micro Cable and you are good to go!
The Feather is compatible with all LiPo battery packs we carry in stock.
