Description
The 12V Relay Featherwing is an all-in-one relay module and DC power converter for the Adafruit Feather. This board allows a Feather to operate within a 12V system and switch higher voltage / higher current devices from a compact, easy to mount, package.
The 12V Relay Featherwing is compatible with the Adafruit Feather standard and has been tested with numerous Feathers including the Feather Huzzah ESP8266. The board uses a single GPIO to control the relay, and has an LED indicator to show the status of the relay. This Featherwing uses high quality North American sourced parts and features our standard trace isolation routing.
5V is generated onboard by way of a DC/DC converter. Since there is no VIN equivalent pin within the Feather standard, this 5V power is piped into the Feather by way of the USB header pin. 12V Power is supplied through the two pin screw terminal, while Common, Normally Open, and Normally Closed relay contacts are brought out for the relay in the 3 pin screw terminal.
Operational Note: The Adafruit Feather standard does not have a method of protecting 5V power from being fed up the USB line when powered by the USB pin, so we don’t recommend connecting your Feather to a USB port while 12V power is applied to this Featherwing. If you must have USB and 12V power at the same time, the USB line would need to have some form of power isolation to prevent the back feed to the other device.
