Description
A diode is a simple circuit component that basically restricts current flow in one direction. Diodes are often used for reverse polarity protection (to prevent damage to circuits when a battery or power supply is plugged in backwards), to protect circuits against back EMF (high voltages created by inductive loads such as motors, solenoids, or relays), or basic rectification (creating DC from AC)
The 1N4148 is a standard silicon switching diode best used for high speed switching applications. The diode features a reverse recovery time of 4ns, meaning speeds of up to 100MHz can be achieved.
