Description
This single pole single throw (SPST) toggle switch is unique – it features an integrated LED and protective cover to prevent the switch from accidentally being knocked to the “ON” position. These are commonly referred to as Missile Switches or Master Arm Switches and are similar to those used to “Safe” various systems in aircraft or other devices.
To switch the toggle to the On position, the cover first needs to be opened. Once the switch cover is in the open position, the toggle can be used per normal. When the cover is closed, it forces the toggle back to the “OFF” position. So, if the cover is closed, the switch has to be off.
The toggle switch is intended to be used with 12VDC systems and features an integrated LED in the switch toggle. The LED circuit is powered via your input power to the switch and is grounded by way of a third tab for connection to the power source’s ground. An internal current limiting resistor ensures correct operation at 12V. The LED is on when the switch is in the “On” position. If you do not wish to use the LED, simply don’t connect the Ground tab on the side of the switch.
The switch can be mounted through a 12mm diameter hole. The base of the switch requires a minimum of 35mm behind the panel, though it may be possible to reduce this by bending the tabs. The connecting tabs are 1/4″ male spade terminals / quick connects.
