Description
TT gearmotors (also known as TT motors) are found in many beginner robot kits and offer a simple solution for enthusiasts and beginners looking to experiment with robotics, automation, or other motion-control projects. These miniature gearmotors combine a compact DC motor with a simple gearbox and are available in several different gear ratios. They provide a suitable torque output for lightweight and small-scale robot or other application and serve as an accessible introduction to motor technology and gearboxes.
This specific TT gearmotor features an all-metal 1:90 reduction gear-set in an easy to mount assembly. On each side of the gearbox there is a 5.5mm flatted output shaft – these can be used to connect wheels and rotary encoder discs. The “no load” output shaft speed is approximately 120 RPM at 3V and 250 RPM at 6V. An ideal speed for a small roaming robot!
These motors require a motor driver or motor controller to be controlled by an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, micro:bit, or other similar microcontroller or single board computer.
